Grants and Programs Assistant

Musammat Islam is Grants and Programs Assistant at Birth Detroit, where she began her journey as an intern in late 2023. A Wayne State University graduate with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, Musammat is deeply passionate about mental health and maternal health.


In addition to her role at Birth Detroit, Musammat is actively involved in community initiatives. She serves as a committee member for the Peter Pan Micro-Grant Fund, which supports inspiring projects led by young people aimed at social good and economic mobility. She is also an advisor for the Detroit Youth Summit Council for L!FE Leaders. Additionally, she has been involved with L!FE Leaders, Inc. since 2018 through various roles. L!FE Leaders, Inc. is dedicated to empowering Detroit youth through leadership training, professional skills development, and opportunities for growth.


Musammat’s interest in mental health research has led her to present her work at prominent conferences such as the National Conference for Undergraduate Research and American Arab, Middle Eastern, and North African Psychological Association (AMENA-Psy) Conference, reflecting her commitment to advancing knowledge in her field.


Outside of her professional and research pursuits, Musammat enjoys exploring new cafes and restaurants, driven by her love for coffee and culinary adventures.
